TOPIC: Queensland Open 2010

10 months ago Queensland Open 2010 #652

hi all,

spoke to Andrew at Q-Masters today and he is keen to hold a comp over the Australia Day Week-end.

This would be a good opportunity for serveral players to get together and organise a Annual Queensland Open Event.

It could be run like the Geelong Open. or

It could be run like 3 x 64 draws knock-out draws on Saturday and Losers draw and Ladies comp on Sunday.

Going back a few years Pinkenbah Pub used to get a good crowd for this comp. Even had a few from Melbourne travel up.

I have attached a dummy format. Who ever runs the comp can submit a format. or a group of players can work it out.

Then a Gold Coast comp can be run in a similar format (May 2010)

This would be a Annual event Known as the Queensland Open and maybe QEBF with put in a few hundred for a good set of Trophies and shield.

Any Takers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm keen to get involved.

I will speak with Andrew and try and get something underway.

Anyone care to assist can ring me on 0402 329 798.

My honest opinion is that these tournaments are best in a round robin format for the Saturday with a set number of qualifers going through to a knock out stage for the cash. A non-qualifiers comp can then also be run.

We are running short on time so best get this started.

the Geelong format is super, you'd get a few Townsville hackers show up if it was run like that

guarantee's you 2 days of pool even if you don't win a game

That's the plan mate, give the no-hopers from up North incentive for a good weekend. Mind you it would be an ironic twist if someone from Townsville could come down and take the cash instead of me taking yours all the time

I'm having a meeting with Andrew on Friday to discuss some details so I can start doing some advertising.

Looks good Trav. I am keen to come down and have a crack.

Just so you know, we plan to release dates for 2010 Townsville Open after QEBF AGM, so start saving your pennies and hopefully we get a few more SEQ guys come up next year too.

A formal request was sent to QEBF regarding the sponsorship of trophies. I have not yet been issued with a response regarding this.

I suppose I best get the trophies ordered myself then?

Trav, yes I did write "This would be a Annual event Known as the Queensland Open and maybe QEBF with put in a few hundred for a good set of Trophies and shield." then Jazz said you had to call it The Q-Masters Open........

Best to email a official letter to secretary@qpool.com.au request sponsorship of trophies ($200) and I will see that every committee member votes.

(well the ones from the South East Zone) as that will be were the money comes from.

Hi have actually sent an email to secretary@qpool.com.au requesting the funding for the trophies.

I will send another one.

I did actually call this the Qld Open, but it was QEBF that changed the name to Q Msters Open.

At this stage I have had around 60 people say that they will play and have had five paid entries. I am expecting that we are looking at 60 to 80 runners, but really wanted to see 100.

Come on pool players, get involved. There is a lot of players talking about wanting to imrove their game and there aren't too many better oppurtunities to do this than to play big gun players where there are big prizes on the line.

Things are looking good for the Q masters Open.

We have around 85 confirmed entries and about 35 people have paid.

I have decided to waive the $60 late entry requirement as it would appear some people where not made aware that5 this was in place.

I will collect entry fees on the day, but you must at least ring or email me to get your name in before Friday 22nd Jan. vicboy75@bigpond.com or 0449 903 012.

I will be capping entries at 110.

We have had a number of players pull out.

Confirmed entries are around 80 with 45 paid.

I must stress that if people want to play they have to at least ring to get their name down.

Trav, is minimum dress code collared shirt? no shorts/open shoes?

i know this is a pool comp but are we going to start at 10? are the 35 unpaid entries going to have until 9.45 to pay? i don't wanna pitch up at 9.30 and only start playing at 11.15

Berri started on time with 350 players, hopefully we can with less than 100.

Cheers mate

There will be no dress code applicable for players.

The main difference with Berri being able to start on time is that all players know that they have to get their entries in and paid for well before the event starts, this allows the organisers to have draws completed well before play commences and therefore allows the event to be started on time. Qld Pool players do not seem to be able to grasp this relatively simple concept. I have continued to stress to all players the importance of getting a paid entry in, but it has fallen on deaf ears. This means that I will have to waste time on Saturday morning collecting final names and money, then I will have to finalise the round robin tables so that we can get the event started.

A big thankyou goes out to all of the people that have already paid their entry, you have shown some true support for this event and are greatly appreciated.

I will do a lot of work towards ensuring that I can quickly organise the round robin tables on Saturday, once the selfish late paying players give me their funds.

I will not be organising any future comps in Qld. The SEQ players just simply do not support these events. It is a sad state of affairs really.

Gotta agree with Trav on this, people are constantly talking about how the other states boost the quality of their game through successfull money comps, and yet when someone gets of their ass and organises it....it gets this response.
Perhaps you'll win on the day Trav and then have some incentive to continue

7 months, 3 weeks ago Re:Queensland Open 2010 #714

Trav you are doing a great job!

I was just thing about Marj and myself doing the city country comps on Friday night..classic... but we have it down to a fine art now and it is a walk in the park.

Maybe you can advertise the groups on the website like
geelong geelongopen.com/index.php?option=com_con...mp;id=3&Itemid=4

do the draws and allocate them the green tables, for the players that have paid

any late entries go on the blue tables or just tell them it is closed

The draw for the round robin tables will be done tonight.

I am going to do two draws based on two different scenarios.

If we have 88 players or less then we will have 8 tables in use of up to 11 players per table.

If we get more than 88 players we will be using 10 tables.

This way it will not matter how many late entries I get on Saturday, I will be able to fit them on a table without causing myslef too many headaches with regard to table allocation. This also means we can get matches started as soon as possible.

Entries will be closed and all money to be paid at 10:15am.

Thank you to all the players that came down to support the inaugral 2010 Q Masters Open.

We have 85 entries in total, a little below my initial 100 target.

Big congratualtaions to our winner Peter Watt who took home the $1,500 first prize. Defeating Rusty Wheeler in the final.

Duain Bauer and Justin Thursby were the two other semi-finalists and collected $375 for their efforts.

A big thank you to Andrew and his staff at Q Masters. The tables had been re-clothed and played extremely well.

Liam Butler collected the $100 best junior prize and played extremely well to make the last 16. Liam is certainly going to be a strong contender for further Qld titles and beyond.

The best female prize of $100 was split between Shazza Brown, BJ Borowicz and Nicole Fielding.

Pat Broderick beat Drew Tett in the non-qualifiers tournament. With each player picking up $200 and $100 respectively.

The idea of this event was to spread the prize money further than previous Qld tournaments, with the last 16 in the main draw getting $50. The money from the Calcutta was also spread down to include the final four players.

A big thank you to Carla Groombridge, Mandy Stewart, Drew Tett and Luke Jordan for all of your help in running the event. Hopefully we can come back bigger and better next year!
