Pre-Exercise Screening System for Young People

To whom it may concern,
We write to you today to advise of the recent launch of the newly developed Pre-Exercise Screening System for Young People (PSS-YP) and invite you to share this tool with your network.

This project was led by Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) in collaboration with Sports Medicine Australia and Fitness Australia and includes tools for both parents and young people, as well as a User Guide.

This pre-exercise screening system aims to help identify young people – aged 5 to 17 – who may have medical conditions which put them at a higher risk of an adverse event during physical activity/exercise. It is a filter or ‘safety net’ to help exercise leaders or providers determine if there are any potential immediate risks to participation which should be considered prior to an individual commencing physical activity/exercise.

The PSS-YP is an important tool for the entire industry and benefits not only the professionals but also the Australians who are joining sport or visit a health and fitness professional for the first time.

What a weekend of Eight Ball for the QLD Junior State Titles and Team Trials.
Firstly thank you to Norths Cue Sports for the use of your venue.Quality as always. Second thank you to everyone who helped running the age groups over the entire weekend.
Once again we had quality numbers in all age groups that shows Queensland Junior pool is strong and continues to grow.
Let me begin by saying the sportsmanship displayed by all competing and the parents was fantastic.
The competition got under way Saturday with the Under 23's Under 18 Girls and Under 15 opens. Obviously with so many tables in play I didn't see every match but those that I did get to see were exceptional quality.
Sunday saw the  Under 18 Opens  and the Under 12's take to the tables. I swear the Under 12's get smaller every year but the competition certainly doesn't.

Before I post the results below again thank you to all those who take time out to travel long distances bringing Juniors  to these events. Without you QLD wouldn't be as strong as we are in the junior ranks.

Eio1x019A great turn out for the Gympie Junior Coaching Muster over the week-end (March 27th 2011). Thanks to the deicated eight ball entusiusts, Brad Hart, Jazz Westaway and Greg Dingle for traveling too offer their expertise.Opps almost forgot to mention Neil, Barbara, Jocob and all the other Gympie Players for assisting through out the day.

The junior were split into groups and each coach were shown stance, bridge, stroke, grip and alignment. They are the basic building blocks that are necessary to proceed to the next level. Practice them diligently. Be patient and put a lot of effort on each fundamental skill. Remember that each basic mechanical skill presented in this section will serve as the foundation of your game. The stronger your foundation, the better prepared you will become at learning the next stage of your journey to mastery of this sport.

The Queensland that was selected in October 2010 played in the Australian Eight Ball Junior Championships in Darwin (January 2011). Qld finished on top of the ladder after the Round Robin Teams Day with 5 wins and 1 loss. We were very unfortunate to just go done to Tasmania 8-6 in the Grand Final. Under 18, 3 frames per match; Under 15, 2 frames per match and the under 12 played 1 frame per match. The brute strength of the under 12 and 15 players was the contributing factor to Queensland finishing on top of the ladder. A huge effort by these young men. Very well done!

Information
The Queensland Junior Development Program has a five venue program -
·         GEEBUNG RSL CLUB
·         Q MASTERS
·         SUNSHINE COAST
·         SNOOKER WORLD GOLD COAST
·         TOWNSVILLE
Hope to extend out our number of venues with the success of our current ones.
The Queensland Junior Development Program is for two purposes.
·         Firstly to provide weekly coaching to junior players to further there knowledge and skills of playing eight ball.
·         As a venue to raise funds for Representative players to travel to competitions.

To see our Queensland Juniors from previous years please go to www.Qpool.com.au and click on the juniors for pictures and stories of previous nationals.
The Queensland Junior development Program will be running every Sunday starting for the 16th of January 2011. The following stages apply
·         12 months membership will apply for each child at $10
·         Membership provides the child with a T shirt to wear to training days and special events.
·         A weekly cost of $5 per child applies
This money along with any fundraising and sponsorship money will be used to fund the Queensland Junior Representative players. Every junior player gets the chance to qualify for the Queensland Junior Nationals Team. The challenge matches and fun days are organised throughout the year at different venues. Hopefully we can make this a success and the kids can have some fun.

The junior fun day was a blast. Shannon organized 1st, 2nd, 3rd & encouragement award trophies. Dayne Van Kempen was the winner on the day, Jayme White 2nd, Jessica Woods 3rd & Hayden Goode 4th. Young Hayden also won the golf game against all the older players. Shannon ran the day really well, the kids all had a good time, there was also a nintendo wii set up for when they weren't playing on the pool tables. There was a lunch provided by Geebung RSL along with chips & lollies throughout.

West Hobart's Mayfair on Cavell was an interesting accommodation experience to say the least. Pretty sure it and its staff have been there since the dawn of time. The staff though were exceptionally friendly and very accommodating, they made it heir business to ask how each of the kids were traveling and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

We all loved Bruce the Maxi Cab Driver. He made us his first priority and was understanding of our timetable difficulties. He even went out of his way to take photos and get them developed and handed out a copy to each of our crew.

As for the events at the Glenorchy Football Club:

It is with great pleasure that I inform you that QLD were the best behaved state on and off the table all week. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the players and the parents. I have to say that I would have lost my mind if it was not for the three mothers that came along for the whole trip, I could not have managed without ya's. Thanks very much for your help.

Liam Butler, Under 18 QLD Champion and QLD Captain. 8th in Australia - Liam didn't perform anywhere near as consistently as I have become accustomed to seeing out of him. However I am yet to find a better natured human being on or off a pool table. Liam you are an absolute credit to the game of 8Ball. Stick at it mate, the 8Ball world is your oyster!

Dayne Van Kempen, Under 18 QLD Runner Up. 4th in Australia - Dayne performed consistently well throughout the week, he produced the best 8Ball I have ever witnessed to defeat his captain Liam 3-0. Dayne you thoroughly deserved your spot in the Australian Junior Team. Keep up the good work Danish :)

Jared Jensen, Under 18 QLD 2nd Runner Up. 7th in Australia - Jared impressed me from start to finish. This young man is a great ambassador for the sport. His composure around the table and excellent attitude under all circumstances enables him to win any tournament he enters.

Vijay Randall, Under 15 QLD Champion. Non Finalist - Vijay is an interesting character to get to know. Vijay matured a lot during his time in Tassie and although he didn't get the chocolates on this occasion, this young man has plenty of titles to look forward to in the near future.

Jayme White, Under 15 QLD Runner Up. 4th in Australia - Jayme impressed the hell out of me. Although he finished 4th he definately looked as good as anyone in the 15s. This young man is very intelligent and one of the quickest learners I've come across.

Hayden Goode, Under 12 QLD Champion. 3rd in Australia - Hayden lost his first two matches before finding something within and winning every match from there on in to top the round robin. Hayden consistently potted balls with ease that I would refuse to even take on. This young man posses more talent than I have seen in my pool career. Unfortunately Hayden didn't win this year's title but I can foresee plenty under his belt in the coming years. Hayden's sportsmanship is a credit to him and his family.

Robert Jenkins, Under 12 QLD Representative. Non Finalist - Robert was not at our state trials but our captain Liam spotted him and playing a game at the local hotel in Rockhampton. He was bought into the side only a few short weeks before the nationals. Robert was still learning the rules during the tournament, luckily though he is a very quick learner. Robert is very quiet by nature but some of the balls he knocked in during the tournament got us to make a lot of noise. Robert's behavior was perfect throughout the tournament, what a nice young man!
